Makers & Music Festival @ Project Hub Spartanburg (Hampton Heights Historic District)

Join Project Hub Spartanburg for an afternoon of STEAM activities: live demonstrations, innovative technology, singer songwriter spotlight, robotics, performance art, local maker silent auction, and live music.

The festival is for children of all ages and there will be activities for the entire family.

iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Fest 2018 @ West End of Downtown Greenville

Looking for a fun and educational way to end Spring Break? Don’t miss the 4th Annual iMAGINE Upstate Festival coming to the West End of downtown Greenville on Saturday, April 7th.  Our outdoor festival is free, family-friendly, and will inspire your kids (and you) to learn about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

This years festival features 75 interactive exhibits and state shows along South Main Street, stretching from the intersection of Augusta Street to Fluor Field from 11AM to 5PM.  Free parking is available at County Square on University Ridge.  Trolleys will shuttle visitors throughout the festival.  Or, ride the bus with your kids for free (they will think it’s so cool!) thanks to Greenlink’s Free Fare Day sponsored by Ten at the Top.

NEXT High School will have it’s first ever benefit concert! This event is purposed to raise money for NEXT High School’s first school-owned van. The concert will include a performances from the NHS Peer / Pro Band, Dr. Mac Arnold and Plate Full of Blues Band, along with food trucks, a silent auction & more!

Advanced Crime Scene Investigator @ CPCC Merancas Campus

Campers attending the Advanced CSI camp will participate in exercises that include crime scene processing and collection of evidence. Students will practice fingerprinting, casting and molding shoe impressions like the Basic CSI camp but will be introduced to some other advanced techniques that include the use of our ESDA ( Electrostatic Dust Apparatus), shooting reconstruction exercises with lasers and photography along with other practical’s which are not done in the Basic Camp. In addition, campers will prepare forensic science tables for show and tell. They will process more advanced mock scenes that will challenge their observation skills and team work. Special guest visitors are also planned.

Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just made $1 million dollars for programming in his bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Basic computer knowledge is essential for success in this camp.

Plus, they get to eat what they prepare and a few sweets too! This camp provides a great mix between kitchen time, eating and socializing with new friends, and age appropriate activities.

DESIGN – Use 3D modeling software, learn how to design an object and format its function. BUILD – You will learn carpentry skills that will allow you to build the object that you have designed and understand how skill and technology comes together to create masterpieces. App Attack @ CPCC Levine Campus

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program .Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Basic computer knowledge is essential for success in this camp.

Join our maker camp designed for middle school girls. Campers will learn digital modeling and simple circuitry techniques while working with conventional and smart materials. Projects will include jewelry design and object making. Young designers and/ or engineers will take their creations home to wear and show off to their family and friends. This camp will appeal to girls who like create, build or problem solve as well as students who are interested in art, jewelry design and/or computer science.

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Basic computer knowledge is essential for success in this camp.

If you think your camper is interested in a legal career or is just fascinated by the law, this camp is for them! Campers will play the role of a prosecuting or defense attorney, an expert witness, a lay witness, a juror, a criminal investigator, etc. as they attempt to unravel the truth in a homicide trial. Campers will join us for a trip downtown to learn about state and federal courts and learn the basics of courtroom procedures.
